A heart of a true leader and a true champion

Bill Russell was the cornerstone of the Boston Celtics' dynasty of the 1960s, an uncanny shotblocker who revolutionized NBA defensive concepts.....
His many individual accolades were well deserved, but they were only products of Russell's philosophy of team play. His greatest accomplishment was bringing the storied Celtics 11 championships in his 13 seasons. Until the ascent of Michael Jordan in the 1980s, Russell was acclaimed by many as the greatest player in the history of the NBA.

I ran into this on NBA.com just now. I believe it was one of the very best interviews of all time. I am not a Celtic fan and perhaps never will be. However, I do respect true warriors who deserve a ring.

"Whether you play the way you play. And you dedicate yourself to doing this.... they (the championship rings) will come."

"You may have to put your arms around a couple of guys and take 'em with you. But you can't just drag 'em. You gotta put your arm around them and take 'em with you, ok?"
What can i say? That IS a leader talk right there. A "follow-me" type of leader.

And the joke at the end .... if you don't get it, check their numbers.

See? 5 is almost as good as 6.

Here is another interview with KG 2 years ago when he was in Minnsota. He wasn't a happy man at all. He wanted to win so badly. It seemed like he'd nothing at all. However, he did have fame, money (a lot of money), a beaufiful wife, and now -- some future hall-of-fame teammates. But we all know he wants more.

This remindes me of "Purpose driven life" by Rick Warren.

"The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It's far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose." -- P.17

Christians do have a goal, a purpose of life. And that is more than winning it all. Prais God for that.
